Hamden Dog Training
About Our Dog Training

Why is in-home training better than attending a group class?
-
Your needs and goals are unique. Your training goals are uniquely yours, so you need more than a one-size-fits-all puppy training class. Your household has specific puppy-raising issues you need help with in order of priority. Your dog needs some manners. Perhaps they're tearing up your house, lunging, or barking at other dogs or strangers. It would help to have a personalized training plan that suits your life, not a cookie-cutter approach from a one-size-fits-all basic manners dog training class.
-
You need relief and want it now. Let's get it now without waiting for the next puppy training class or your puppy to finish its shots. Your dog's behavior impacts your daily life, causing frustration, worry, embarrassment, or real fear. It's time to make a change, so let's get moving!
-
You need more time for class. If you're like most of our clients, you've got plenty on your plate without adding a weekly outing. No worries. We will bring the puppy training to you.
-
You want results where they count, at home and in real life. You don't need your dog to behave in class. You need them to act where it matters: at home and in the real world. It makes sense to do the training in your real-life space.
-
You want a dog that you can take anywhere. You want your puppy to be a part of your family, along for the ride whenever possible. Please tell us what you want to do with your dog, and we can train for it.
-
You want training results as fast as possible. You'll progress far quicker with a dog trainer focused exclusively on helping you attain your personal training goals, which is the ticket to fast, real-life results. Let's close the gap between dreams and reality. We aim to help you reach yours so you can enjoy the best with your dog.

Our Mission
We are committed to helping New Haven area dogs and their guardians learn to communicate effectively, respect each other, and live in harmony through positive reinforcement training methodologies.
We believe that all dogs want to be good and have the ability to become the companion you’re looking for; all they need is understanding and compassion. We believe every owner deserves to have the tools and skills to change their dog’s behavior for the better. And dogs, like people, deserve to be treated with kindness, patience, and respect. We are here to provide that to both them and you so you can build the bond you deserve while accomplishing your training goals.
When you choose to train with Hamden Dog Training, we promise:
-
To treat you and your dog as individuals
-
Never use force, fear, or pain to train your dog.
-
To be committed to reward-based training and continual education
-
To listen to your goals and not blame you or your dog for the struggles you are having
-
Not to force you or your dog to do something that makes you feel uncomfortable.
We can’t wait to meet you and your furry best friend!
Training Philosophy
Dogs do what works for them, so let's show them how to get the good stuff by rewarding the behaviors we want! Science shows that using positive reinforcement training methods helps dogs learn in a most effective and long-lasting way. It's also much fun for both you and your dog!
We'll never use pain or fear while working with you or your dog. We're passionate about creating a safe place for you both to learn. And in that safe place, you can delight in watching your dog transform from "stubborn" to happily attentive!
We'll help you and your dog understand each other better so you can have a lifetime of learning and loving life together. We're dedicated to providing each dog with the individualized training they need to succeed and look forward to helping everyone reach their full potential.
We love working with dedicated dog owners committed to better understanding and helping their dogs be their best canine selves. We especially like working with dogs that are considered “difficult” or “untrainable” by other trainers!
We believe that all learners (dogs and people alike) deserve to be treated with patience, kindness, and compassion. This means that our training protocols, which are industry-standard and evidence-based, utilize only positive reinforcement. We never, under any circumstances, employ the use of shock, prong, or choke collars or any physical or verbal corrections.
We are also heavily focused on dog behavioral health. This means addressing sources of stress, which are often predictive of problem behaviors. We also like to involve our clients’ veterinarians in behavior and training plans when possible so that everyone on the dog’s team is in communication and supporting the dog and owner.
We find that when we concentrate on meeting the dog’s species-specific needs before we do anything else, life gets easier and better for everyone.
